You can do it with Linux with anything from a shell script through perl and almost any other language that Linux supports. This is quite similar to a barcoding application and many other common applications. ![]() I looking for answers that are not complete rocket science but if NASA does have an answer it would be warmly welcomed. So I dont have to write one half in C,C++,VB and the other in PHP? Or could I intergrate a Mysql type query interface program into my data collection program. Could I use C/C++ or VB to read the serial port and place the data in an appropiately created database? Once its in the database I am happy I can use PHP to run the selected queries on it. The biggest problem I have is that I dont know how to get the data from the serial cable into a Mysql database. I dont know the full extent of the protocol but I do know it has delimiters that can be set, so that should make the useful data extraction easy. The vision system feeds out a string everytime it sees an object(envelope) and outputs the characters it reads on that envelope inside a standard string.
